.farm

Register a .farm domain

Delegated in December 2013 and held by Binky Moon, LLC, part of Identity Digital. Nothing about it is restricted to agriculture: there is no land register check, no producer certificate and no approval step.

Each figure is the total for that whole term, resolved live from the same pricing engine that charges your cart, so this page cannot advertise an amount checkout will not honour. Only the terms this registry actually sells are shown; an em-dash means that term is not on offer. A crossed-out price is a standing price a running promotion undercuts. Premium names are priced individually — search the exact name to see its own quote.

Before you register .farm

What the price includes

Every .farm amount on this page is resolved by the same pricing engine that charges your cart, at the moment the page is built. There is no separate ICANN fee, agency fee or surcharge added later — the figure you see is the figure you pay, in the currency shown.

Premium and reserved names

Some names are classed as premium by the registry and priced individually, usually at the premium rate every year rather than only the first. Search the exact name to see its own quote. If a name's premium status or price changes between your quote and your purchase, the quote is invalidated rather than quietly repriced.

Renewal is not automatic unless you switch it on

Auto-renew is off unless you enable it, and enabling it sets a flag at the registry rather than scheduling a charge here. We email the registrant address before a name expires, so keep a monitored address on the record. If a .farm name does lapse, restoring it costs considerably more than renewing it would have — the restore price is in the table above.

Transfers

Transferring .farm to us needs the AuthInfo (EPP) code from your current registrar, which they are obliged to give you on request. Where the registry operates a waiting period before a name may move — ICANN imposes one on generic extensions — it is set out in the facts above. That is registry policy, not ours, and we cannot waive it.

Eligibility

Open to anyone, anywhere

Registry: Binky Moon, LLC, part of Identity Digital.

  • No eligibility test. Despite the name, the registry does not ask for proof that you farm anything, and there is no agricultural register, holding number or producer certificate to supply.

  • No documentary evidence and no validation delay, so a name registers immediately if it is free.

  • Registrant data is the standard gTLD contact set. No trustee or local-presence service exists or is needed, which matters for holdings that straddle a border.

  • The registry reserves a set of names and can extend that set at any time, and certain labels are classified as premium and priced individually rather than at the standard rate.

Who .farm is genuinely for

The extension does its best work where agriculture meets the public. A holding that sells at the gate, runs a shop, delivers boxes, opens for visits or supplies restaurants has a marketing problem, not just a website, and the suffix carries part of the message on its own. The naming pattern that works is the family or holding name on the left and nothing else, so that the label stays short enough to say on the phone and print on a delivery box.

It is also a reasonable fit for the businesses around farming rather than farming itself, machinery dealers, feed and seed merchants, contractors, veterinary practices and agronomy consultancies, where the audience is farmers and the suffix signals which industry you serve. What it is not good at is anything that has to look like a national institution or a large processor. A cooperative, a certification body or a food brand sold through supermarkets will be better served by a country extension or the .com, because those buyers are checking corporate legitimacy rather than provenance.

Registry reality, and the renewal problem in this sector

IANA lists .farm's sponsoring organisation as Binky Moon, LLC, contracting through Identity Digital, delegated in December 2013 under an ordinary ICANN registry agreement. That means there is no agricultural policy layer of any kind: the registry publishes an acceptable use policy, an IDN policy and a reserved names list, and none of them impose an eligibility test. The premium and reserved sets are the only practical constraint, and the registry can revise both without notice, so the price the search returns for a specific name is the price that applies.

The failure mode we see most often on agricultural domains is not policy, it is the calendar. Sites are frequently built once by a contractor or a family member, registered on their email address, then left alone for years, and the first anyone hears of an expiry is when the shop's order page stops loading. ICANN obliges us to send two expiry notices, about a month and about a week before the date, but they only work if the address on the record is read. As your registrar we can act at the ordinary renewal price for 40 days after expiry; once the name has been deleted into redemption, restoring it costs materially more and it cannot be moved to another registrar until it has been restored.

Terms and lifecycle

What holding a .farm actually commits you to

Term
One to ten years in a single registration. A ten-year term is worth considering here specifically, because a farm domain is often the least-touched item in the business and nobody wants an annual renewal riding on one mailbox.
If you miss the renewal
The registry auto-renew grace period comes first, up to 45 days, and through Openprovider we can still renew at the ordinary price for 40 days after expiry. Then the name is deleted into ICANN's 30-day redemption period, where DNS is switched off and the domain cannot be transferred out at all, only restored, at the restore price shown above. Identity Digital then holds it for a further 5 days before release.
Transfer lock
60 days after registration and 60 days after any previous transfer, under ICANN's Transfer Policy. The transfer itself runs on the AuthInfo code from your existing registrar, who has 5 calendar days to give it to you once you ask.
Registrant contact hygiene
The registrant email is where every expiry notice goes, so it is the one contact detail worth getting right. For a farm business whose site was built once and never touched again, put a monitored address on the record rather than the one belonging to whoever built it.
IDN and DNSSEC
Internationalised labels are supported, so accented and umlauted spellings of a holding name register normally. DNSSEC signing is available and we recommend it for any domain that also carries the farm's email.

Fit

Who .farm is for

  • Direct-sales and farm-gate businesses

A holding that sells boxes, meat, cheese, wine or a subscription scheme direct to households is really running a small retail brand. hofgut.farm or a family name plus .farm tells a customer what they are buying from before they read a word of the page.

  • Agritourism and open-farm operations

Farm shops, cafes, campsites, pick-your-own and school visits all live on being found, and the suffix does part of the explaining in a printed advert or on the side of a van, where a long .com does not.

  • When a ccTLD serves you better

If nearly all your customers are within an hour's drive, a .ch or the ccTLD of your own country will out-perform .farm on trust and recall. Take the local extension first and treat .farm as the descriptive second name, not the other way round.

Selling to Swiss households

For a farm shop, a box scheme or a farm-gate business with local customers, a .ch name does the work .farm cannot. It is open to registrants anywhere, with no Swiss company or residency requirement.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need to own or run a farm to register a .farm domain?

No. .farm is unrestricted. There is no check against an agricultural register, no holding number and no producer certificate, and registration completes immediately when a name is free.

What happens if my .farm domain expires?

It first sits in the registry auto-renew grace period, and we can renew it at the ordinary price for 40 days after expiry. After deletion it enters ICANN's 30-day redemption period, during which it stops resolving and cannot be transferred, then 5 days of pending delete before anyone can register it. A restore costs considerably more than a renewal.

Can I register a .farm name with an umlaut or accent?

Yes. Identity Digital supports internationalised domain names under IDNA 2008, so accented and umlauted spellings register normally. Scripts cannot be mixed within one label, and the supported tables are published per TLD in the IANA repository of IDN practices.

Should I take .farm or my country's extension?

If your customers are local, take the ccTLD first. A Swiss farm shop will get more recall from a .ch name than from .farm, and many holdings register both, pointing one at the other. .farm earns its place when you sell beyond your own region or when the .ch you want is gone.

How do I move an existing .farm domain to you?

Request the AuthInfo code from your current registrar, who must supply it within 5 calendar days, then start the transfer here. The domain cannot move if it was registered or last transferred within the previous 60 days, and it cannot move at all while it is in redemption.
